I was once a kid and my parents would take me to parks to enjoy see-saws, swings and birds that flock. We always walk by the same street, and every time we do I always see this man with his cart made of red and yellow. I wonder what does he have with his cart and so I ask mommy. Instead of an answer, she gave a box full of yellowish stuff in it. I didn’t know what to do with it until she grabs a handful and started eating it. Oh! So that was food and it’s how you eat it. I just mimicked mommy, grabbing little pieces with my small fingers and began munching. It was hard yet soft, like nougat. A little bit bland yet salty. It is weird how its characteristics contrast with each other yet perfectly form the totality of the food. But I love munching it and I love the way it sounds inside my mouth.
I grew up and my fascinations about pop corn never fade. Why would it be
when I see them everywhere – parks, movie theatres, carnivals, ballgames. It is just like a national past-time food of all and I can’t blame everyone when they want to get one and munch all throughout the game or movie. There is something with popcorn that I can’t decipher what it is, sort of X-factor. The way it suits with watching television shows or movies. The way it does not get you bored with the taste even you have eaten a bowlful of it already.
And as years passed by, popcorn was never out of touch, neither forgotten nor ignored. Funny, because popcorn machines were even invented to make better popcorn and at a faster speed. People have also begun creating different varieties of popcorn, most popular are the cheesy and salty butter flavour. Machines were also created for kitchen use, from microwaveable to electric or air popping ones – all for the same purpose, to let families make their own popcorn anytime they want!
In whatever manner corns have been popped, be it microwave, oil, electric or air it does not matter for popcorns never failed to satisfy its consumers. Although I will never get why people flock around the man’s red and yellow cart like birds flock around food, it does not bother me anymore – for now, I am also one of those people who flock around. Guess what, I’m a certified popcornaholic!
